Overview: TopCon TC.GXS - Programmable Regenerative DC Electronic Load


The development, testing and optimisation of modern energy technologies often require an active source/sink system. Until now, manufacturers have offered either a split source/sink approach or an integrated fixed power supply system without a
ny modularity.

As REGATRON has already introduced the new TopCon TC.GSS series of integrated bidirectional current source/sink supplies, the next step to increase the flexibility of REGATRON power supplies follows right now with the new TC.GXS.
TC.GXS series operates as “sink only” and has the same excellent technical data of the popular TC.GSS bidirectional power supplies in their field of application.

The modular TopCon concept is still maintained, therefore a finely graduated variety of units in terms of voltages and power are at customer’s disposal. Furthermore TC.GXS may be controlled by the operating software TopControl, so no accommodation to a new software is needed.

20kW & 32kW = 1 Module, 40kW & 64kW = 2 Modules, 96kW = 3 Modules, 128kW = 4 Modules
Prices for systems above 128kW up to the 1 MW range are available on request

Multi-module systems (≥40 kW) allow for parallel-, seriel- or mixed-parallel-series operation to increase sink current
and voltage range.

19" Architecture

Units from the TC.GXS series can be mounted in the same 19” cabinets as the existing TC.GSS power supply family.

The units can be easily assembled in to standard 19” racks with an absolute minimum of additional wiring. This ensures that even high power systems only need a fraction of space compared to conventional solutions. Example of a cabinet completely wired, tested and ready for use:

Application examples TC.GXS

• Discharge of battery systems with energy feedback to mains
• Testing of fuel cell stacks with energy feedback to mains
• Development and testing of AC/DC and DC/DC converters
• In conjunction with TC.GSS modules to get a system with more sink power than source power

System topology TC.GXS

The concept is based on state-of-the-art circuitry providing an optimum of performance, efficiency and dynamic response. The active grid-tied interface section eliminates the well-known problems created by passive 6-pulse rectifiers. All relevant EN regulations are met. The medium frequency transformer ensures a complete isolation of the DC bus versus the grid potential.
